Volume 2015 (2015), Article ID 324369, 6 pages
Maca root is used in natural medicine to support fertility and hormonal balance.
A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study examined the effect of maca on sperm quality in 20 healthy men aged 20–40. Participants were divided into two groups: group A received 1.75 grams of maca daily, and group B received placebo, for 12 weeks.
Study results:
Compared with the control group, the maca group showed improved sperm quality: total count rose by 20%, overall concentration by 14%, motility by 18% and total semen volume by 9%.
No changes in hormone levels were observed in either group.
Study conclusions:
The study results demonstrate that maca increases fertility in men.
